TECHNICAL WRITER SOFTWARE

SUMMARY:

SDP seeks a Technical Writer to develop end-user documentation for software applications.

 

ROLE:

The technical writer will develop, write, edit, facilitate and maintain user documentation, courseware, release notes and presentations concerning our software applications that are developed in-house.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Researches and gathers information from our consultants and software engineers to document software applications.
  • Determines the requirements and content for the documentation for our customers.
  • Translates information into clear and comprehensible written documentation.
  • Reviews and edits written documentation to improve clarity.
  • Identifies instructional strategies to be included in the documentation to enhance the client learning experience.
  • Uses authoring tools to create/organise educational content and establish templates for training to be delivered to internal/external clients.

 

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE

  • Languages skills: English mother tongue and excellent language skills in Spanish are required. Knowlegde of French, Dutch or German is an asset.
  • Bachelor degree as Translator or in Instructional Design, Communication, Technical Writing or equivalent by experience.
  • Strong literacy skills: a background in developing manuals or courseware is a plus.
  • Expertise as a technical writer in the computer software industry or a strong desire to develop his/her technical knowledge.
  • Expertise with Adobe FrameMaker. Knowledge of other tools such as CAT tools, WebWorks ePublisher and MS Office Visio is a plus.
  • A strong eye for detail and solid proof-reading and writing skills to ensure all documents are of the highest quality standard.
  • Task flexibility: the candidate will sometimes need to perform tasks outside the normal area of responsibility.
  • Customer perspective: to enhance customer satisfaction, it is important that our manuals are user-friendly and written with the audience in mind, and that they clearly communicate the possibilities of our software products.
  • The successful candidate might be very experienced – or have only a little experience. Enthusiasm, ambition and an intelligent curiosity in technical communications are key.
  • Willingness to travel outside Spain.
